Today I played “Ghostbusted”, a module that pitted the Ghostbusters and the Scooby Doo gang against a haunted town in a lore mash up universe. It used the RPG system Fate for its rules structure. This module was written and run by Claire.
Ghostbusted was a fun scenario with an unusual mix of PvP and PvE elements, and I liked the Fate systems custom dice: D6 with +1 / 0 / -1 outcomes, rolled in 4s with a skill/ability score added.
A scheduling mishap meant this was the only full RPG session I played today. I also took a long walk along the seafront, browsed the vendor stalls, hang out at the bar, and played some card & board games, including:
Unexpected Treasures

A nice little risk/reward game with a some clever tie-break mechanics, where you race to collect items and complete missions, a personal favourite of mine but not the easiest game to pick up and play.
The Great Dalmuti

A clever card-disposal game. None of the group had played before, so we learnt together. The rule book made it sound more complicated than it was, but once we got going it was straightforward. I could see this easily becoming a groups go-to game that gets played over and over again. Fun quick and lots of potential for strategic depth.
Set

If you fancy spending an evening staring in silence at a grid of 12 abstract shapes until your brain hurts then this is the game for you. Snap for set-theorists.
Hanabi

A cooperative game quite unlike anything else I’ve played, where you hold you card backwards so everyone except you and see you hand. The core mechanic is limited information sharing, and the most difficult part at first is for people not to accidentally cheat.
Tomorrow morning I will be running another game of Getting Away With Murder.
Is that the first time you’ve played FATE? I’d list it in my top 5 RPGs.
Not the first time I’ve played fate. I’ve played modules at cons before, but i dont know the system well.
